Saarschmiede is one of the world’s leading and most experienced suppliers of special materials and superalloys for safety-critical applications in the defense sector—particularly where the highest levels of reliability, strength and service life are required. Our product portfolio comprises high-strength quenched and tempered steels, maraging steels, high-temperature and toughness-optimized steels, corrosion- and wear-resistant special materials, as well as high-temperature nickel- and cobalt-based alloys for land and marine applications.

Our extensive range of production facilities, including our 120 MN press, combined with the differentiated capabilities of our vacuum metallurgy, enables us to manufacture materials for the most demanding defense specifications and complex component geometries. VI (vacuum induction), VAR (vacuum arc remelting) and ESR (electroslag remelting) grades, as well as triple-melting qualities, form the basis—together with our comprehensive expertise in materials and process engineering—for producing high-purity, high-performance special materials for safety-critical systems.

Throughout the entire manufacturing process—from melting, forging and heat treatment through to non-destructive testing, mechanical and technological testing, and finish machining—the various materials are processed into bars, discs, rings, hollow bodies and preforms for die forging. This results in customized forged components for drive, structural and functional applications in defense systems with the highest requirements for strength, toughness, temperature resistance and reliability.
