Sustainability – a traditional core element of our corporate policy

Sustainable production of our high-quality products is based on our high level of metallurgical expertise. The entire production process is within a single company and takes place along the value chain in a closed material cycle: from CO2-reduced melting in the electric arc furnace with a high proportion of recycled special scrap, hot forming and heat treatment, ultrasonic testing and trials, to machining with CNC-controlled machines. We manufacture grades with especially high purity requirements using the electroslag remelting process (ESR). Special materials and superalloys are remelted under vacuum in a vacuum induction (VI) furnace or for further finishing in a vacuum arc (VA) furnace.

Management statement for the SHS Group

Sustainability and responsible action are deeply rooted in the SHS Group and form an integral part of our corporate philosophy. Saarstahl is committed to producing high-quality steel products using state-of-the-art and sustainable methods. In doing so, we always keep sight of our responsibility to the environment and to current and future generations. Based on our successes to date and with the aim of creating a livable future for everyone, we are continuously working to identify further potential for improvement and setting ambitious goals.

„We are Pure Steel+“

The Pure Steel+ brand stands for our ambition to be one of the most technically advanced and innovative steel manufacturers in Europe, even after the decarbonization of our production. We are sending out a strong signal for innovation and sustainability with our slogan “We are Pure Steel+”.

“Pure” describes the high quality of our steel products, which are already helping speed today’s energy and mobility transition. “Pure” also describes the efforts and achievements of our employees, who are making change possible with their strong commitment and their pride in being part of it. We label our CO2-reduced steel with the “plus” sign. We place it directly on our products so our customers all over the world can immediately recognize the added value of our steel innovations.
